EA Sports UFC 6 Guide – 10 Essential Tips for Fighters of Every Skill Level

UFC 6 marks the return of the series after a long hiatus, and it introduces several new mechanics to master—most notably the Flow State system and its related Boosts. Learning how to leverage these gameplay systems effectively can be the difference between a winning streak and a losing one.

Whether you’re a rookie stepping into the Octagon for the first time or a veteran coming back for another round, these ten essential tips will sharpen your game and give you an edge over the competition.

1. Preserve Your Stamina – Don’t Spam

Throwing wild strikes might work against casual opponents, but in intermediate and higher ranks, there’s no room for waste. Stamina is a precious resource—spend it wisely. Keep a close eye on its depletion rate in the early rounds. A tired fighter is a vulnerable fighter.

2. Maintain Distance – Stay Out of Range

With the massive selection of fighters, moves, and combos, it’s nearly impossible to learn every counter to every attack. But here’s the secret: a strike can’t land if you’re not in range. Learn to retreat and control the space between you and your opponent. Don’t always charge forward—know when to step back and reset.

3. Use the Frame Timing Meter – Know Your Speed

Practice Mode isn’t just for memorising combos. The Frame Timing meter gives you a clear visual representation of your move speed and the duration of their windows. This is especially useful for countering fast fighters. Spend time here to understand the rhythm of your strikes and the openings they leave.

4. Study Your Fighter Perks – They Matter

Each fighter has five Perks that can significantly influence the outcome of a fight. Knowing which ones synergize with your move list is crucial. Pause the game and commit them to memory—a well-leveraged Perk can turn the tide when you least expect it.

5. Trigger Flow Boosts – Fill Your Meter Faster

When you leverage your fighter’s Perks in certain contextual conditions, you trigger a Flow Boost, which accelerates the filling of your Flow Meter. More Flow Boosts mean more frequent access to Flow State—a powered-up effect unique to each fighter. Learn the conditions and exploit them.

6. Maximise Your Flow State Perk

One of your five Perks has an additional effect once your fighter is already in Flow State. Lean on that required move as much as possible during that short window to extract maximum value. It’s a small detail that can make a big difference in close fights.

7. Turn Off the Flow State Visual Effect

The on-screen effects when entering Flow State can be distracting—even annoying. Fortunately, you can turn them off entirely in the settings menu. Replace the flashy visuals with a simple HUD icon. Cleaner screen, clearer focus.

8. Vary Your Moves – Don’t Be Predictable

Avoid hyper-fixation on filling the Flow Meter with the same handful of moves. That makes you highly predictable to any vigilant opponent, opening you up to consistent hard counters. Identify alternative moves if possible, or at least cycle through different sequences of your Flow Boost moves to keep your opponent guessing.

9. Vary Your Range – Don’t Always Push Forward

It’s instinctive to always advance while striking, but this can limit your power and move variety. Learn to let go of the movement stick—or at least keep a light touch on it once you’ve found your fighter’s optimal strike distance for maximum damage output. Control the range, control the fight.

10. Vary Your Targets – Don’t Just Go for the Head

Targeting the head is instinctual, but it’s also predictable. Ignoring body strikes is a mistake—counters to your head-hunting habits will leave you open to follow-up flurries. Mix up your attacks: go high, go low, and keep your opponent’s defence guessing.

These ten tips are your foundation for success in UFC 6. Master the fundamentals—stamina management, distance control, move variety, and Flow State mechanics—and you’ll find yourself winning more fights than you lose.

Now step into the Octagon, stay sharp, and remember: the best fighters are the ones who never stop learning.
