UFC 6 Punches Its Way to the Top of June’s US Sales, but a $5 Chameleon Stole the Show

If you were hoping for a hardware rebound in June, brace yourself—the numbers aren’t pretty. According to Circana analyst Mat Piscatella, US console sales took a heavy year-on-year dip. But on the software side, the story is far more interesting. Topping the charts for projected physical and full-game digital dollar sales was EA Sports UFC 6, which delivered a clean knockout against the competition. No surprise there—it’s a big-name franchise with a dedicated fanbase. What did raise eyebrows, however, was the game that snagged the silver medal: Meccha Chameleon.

Yes, you read that right. A $5 Prop Hunt-style indie title managed to sell over 10 million units before June was even over, propelling it to second place on the overall chart. That’s not a typo—it’s a testament to how a clever concept and a bargain price can still disrupt the heavyweight segment. For context, Star Fox debuted at fourth place overall, yet it actually topped Nintendo platform sales for the month, beating out Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream and Mario Kart World. So while the big guns fired, the little lizard snuck right past them.

Despite these bright spots—and the presence of 007 First Light, which has already climbed to third place in the US year-to-date rankings—the overall picture is a bit sobering. Total video game content spending fell 12% year-over-year, landing at $3.9 billion for June. Year-to-date content dollars are essentially flat compared to 2025, sitting at $24.3 billion. Given the drop in hardware and the relatively quiet release calendar, it’s not a disaster, but it’s hardly a banner month.

The good news? The pipeline is about to get a whole lot thicker. September is shaping up to be a juggernaut, with Onimusha: Way of the SwordControl ResonantSilent Hill: TownfallThe Blood of DawnwalkerMinecraft Dungeons 2, and Marvel’s Wolverine all lined up. And let’s not forget the elephant in the room—Grand Theft Auto 6—which is rumored to have already broken pre-order records and is slated for November. If those numbers hold, it might single-handedly carry the industry through the end of the year.

For now, June belongs to the octagon and a shape-shifting reptile. Not the combo anyone predicted, but hey—that’s the beauty of this business. We’ll be watching July’s numbers closely, especially with the upcoming open betas and early-access kerfuffles already making waves. Stay tuned.
