Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game’s Xbox Series X/S Version Delayed to September 3rd

Developer Gameplay Group International has confirmed that the Xbox Series X/S version of Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game has been pushed back from its original launch date. In a statement shared via social media, the studio blamed “unforeseen circumstances” related to work on a backend feature for the delay. The new release date is now set for September 3rd, and all existing pre-orders will remain valid—no need to re-purchase or re-queue.

The studio also shed more light on the Nintendo Switch version, which will only be available as a standard edition at launch. Cross-platform multiplayer won’t be supported on Switch initially, and language localization is limited to English for now. However, Gameplay Group International assured players that it is actively working on bringing additional localization options, crossplay support, and a Deluxe Edition upgrade to the platform down the line.

“Our priority is delivering the best possible experience on every platform, and we are working tirelessly to make that happen,” the studio said. “Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support. We’re excited to get everyone into the fight as soon as possible.”

While Xbox players wait a little longer, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game officially launches today on PC, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. The game was first unveiled back in October 2025, with a striking hand-drawn art style that faithfully mirrors the aesthetic of both animated series. At launch, the roster includes 12 playable characters, with more planned via a seasonal content model. Multiplayer fans will also be pleased to hear that the studio has implemented “best-in-class net code” for smooth online battles.

The announcement trailer already confirmed fan-favorites like Aang, Korra, Zuko, Toph, Katara, and Azula are all present from day one. It also teased Aang’s full Avatar State mode, hinting that other characters may have their own unique power-ups to turn the tide of battle.

Earlier today, a new trailer dropped, offering a clearer breakdown of the game’s modes and features. Offline players can dive into Story, Arcade, Training, and a Gallery mode for artwork. There’s also a Combo Trial mode to help players master each character’s mechanics. For the competitive crowd, both Casual and Ranked multiplayer options are available, complete with rollback netcode to keep latency issues at bay.

For a deeper dive, check out our review of the PS5 version, where we scored the game a 9 out of 10. We praised its approachable-yet-deep combat system and diverse, balanced roster, though we noted that the tutorials don’t do the best job of explaining core mechanics to newcomers—and even the Story mode kicks things off with a character that some might find a bit overwhelming. Still, if you’re a fan of the Avatar universe or fighting games in general, this one’s well worth your time.
